How we review

What we test, how we score, and what we never do.

What we test

We use each tool on the jobs our readers actually do. For businesses, that means answering a customer, taking a booking or sending a reminder. For creators, it means turning one video into clips or posts. Every review lists the tasks we ran.

What every review shows

  • Last tested: the date we last used the tool, and on what.
  • Price checked: the date we last checked the price on the maker’s own page.
  • Best for / not for: who should pick it, and who shouldn’t.
  • Pros, cons and alternatives.
  • Sources for every fact we didn’t test ourselves.

Scores

Scores run from 0 to 10. They reflect how well the tool did on our tasks, for the reader it suits best. A score is only shown once we have tested the tool ourselves.

Keeping reviews fresh

We re-check prices and key features regularly, and we update the “last tested” date whenever we test again. If a tool changes a lot, we update the review or mark it out of date.

What we never do

  • We never accept payment for a review or a better score.
  • We never invent results, numbers or quotes.
  • We never let a tool maker see or edit a review before it’s published.
